A visual language for your senses

You know the aroma.
Let’s find its name.

Blackcurrant. Citrus peel. A familiar herb. Our aroma atlas brings those scent memories together in an illustrated world you can explore.

Start with a family, then look a little closer. These are comparisons to help describe what you notice, not ingredients added to wine.

Watercolor scene of a father and son comparing apples in an autumn orchard

01 / Paul Hobbs · New York roots

Before the vineyard,
there was an orchard.

Growing up on his family’s farm in upstate New York, Paul Hobbs tasted the same apple variety from different orchards. The differences stayed with him: a first lesson in how place shapes flavor, long before he made wine.

An artistic reconstruction of a documented childhood lesson, not a photograph of the event.

02 / Paul Hobbs · A beginning in 1991

A wine with a sense of place.

In 1991, Hobbs approached growers Larry Hyde and Richard Dinner for fruit. His namesake winery grew from a conviction that the vineyard should speak through the wine.

Owner-selected watercolor homage of the Starmont winery exterior

03 / Starmont · California

One name. A lasting curiosity.

Starmont first appeared on a wine label in 1989. This watercolor homage invites a closer look at the place behind the name, one of the ways we bring wine stories beyond the bottle.
